What's been going on at Tik Tok lately?

At Tik Tok we acknowledge the importance of our children going out and about in their community as well as valuing and respecting everyone's festivals.

In October we celebrated the Jewish festival, Sukkot by taking a group of children to the Jewish bakery and supermarket. The staff were very friendly and allowed the children to have their photographs taken with the baker. The children enjoyed choosing bread and pastries to take back to nursery and share with their friends.

At the end of January we took a group of children from each of our pre-school rooms on an outing to China Town to celebrate Chinese New Year.

We used the Metro to get there, which for a few of the children was a first time experience and they thought it was a big adventure! We visited the Chinese Supermarket where the children enjoyed looking around and we also purchased some items to take back to the nursery for the other children to try. The highlight of the outing for children and staff was when one of the chinese restaurant owners invited us in to let the children try on a huge dragon head, play chinese instruments and even gave everyone a fortune cookie.

The Baltic Art Gallery was the venue for a Yoko Ono exhibition in February and children from Tik Tik went to see what it was all about. They had a fantastic time walking over the Millenium Bridge before going into the gallery. They all wore protcective clothing before being let lose with paint, brushes and rollers to make a free for all design on an enormous canvas on the floor. Eat your heart out Rolf Harris!

Grandparents of children of Tik Tik were invited to join us for a special Grandparents day at the end of Feburary.

They were invited to interact with the children at a two hour session and got involved in activities such as weaving, painting, musical instruments, construction and many more. In the Home Corner, one grandparent proudly showed off his computer skills! Grandparents were invited along to the dining room to enjoy some refreshments, cakes and scones, especially made by the cook, before they took part in more fun activity in the garden. Feedback from the 32 grandparents who attended was great and they, children and staff really enjoyed the day – we hope to see them all again soon.
